about

This website started in 2004 as a way to post family photos and stuff. Facebook took care of that a few years later, but the website stayed on as a blog, and also a separate photography blog. That merged into one in the last few years as my posts usually contain a picture of interest and a long rant about something totally unrelated. Now it’s been simplified into a journal of daily life and hopefully progress in my style of photography.

Started schooling in Malaysia, went through the stifling conformity of Chinese education growing up, and got a culture shock coming to Australia in 1999. Having said that, the same stifling conformity of Chinese education pushed me to always get the job done, no matter how hard. In Melbourne, studied, travelled and slowly loosened the shackles that made me a gawkish lad. Graduated and green in 2004, sold fish and sushi rolls for a year before landing a first proper job at a hedge fund doing programming magic and asset pricing/reconciliation. The world economy was great back in 2007, got a stint in New York City with said hedge fund, dining lavishly and having front row seats to a Yankees baseball game before the financial meltdown and facing doom and gloom on a daily basis. Had first hand experience watching massive Wall St banks come tumbling down in 2008. Came back to Melbourne after a reality check and was crunching number reports for a local hospital coming into 2011.

Aspires to be lots but am often vague about what I’d like to accomplish. This blog is an outlet to record memories, photos and other miscellaneous items that pique my interest along the way.
