Never tempt the sky

Summer of 04, Melbourne. Heh, was happily twiddling with my computer in my room, unaware of the boiling sun outside. Until of course, I hung my laundry out to dry. A blistering 40 degrees celsius, one still ponders about the mad Melbourne weather, where only a day ago, I was still enjoying 20 degrees and less.

The day had started late (heh, tired of the sunrise already, gonna sleep earlier these coming days), so while most of my laundry had dried 3 hours later, there were still 2 articles of clothing that were fairly wet. 6pm, it was a nice golden sunset, and nary a cloud in the sky. So I mentioned to my friend, ‘Impossible it will rain lar, so hot, some more no clouds’. So I left them out to dry.

Flash floods no, but flash forward at 1230am, the unthinkable happened. It rained! The spotless sky rained, much to the amusement of my friend. Heh, the rest is history.

First Post!

Finally got this blardy site up and working! Pardon the language, but it’s taken me more than 24 hrs to set this up, which isn’t usually on par with my computing standards (ahem.. hehe..).

So what’s this? I started dabbling in webpages since 1997, when I got my first laptop. Back then, it was basic HTML and very horrid design. Over the years, I’ve built a personal website or two, featuring some artwork and rants. Then it fell into oblivion as I rarely bothered to update it. Days inched by for while I was still interested in building a site, lack of content and crappy design deterred me.

Fast forward 2003, the year of discovery! I learnt ASP, CSS and a host of Internet scripting languages. Technical aspects aside, all the building blocks for a personal site slowly came to me. Finally, I took the plunge and got meself a domain name, heh, and the last 48 hrs was trying to understand the Linux server I was using (so very different from Microsoft’s IIS). The technical support for my host is pretty amazing, answering my emails at 12am KL time.

Now that I have a proper domain name, a robust web host with server side scripting, I have no more excuses of yesteryear to not fix up my site. Design will slowly creep in as I figure out how to reconfigure some coding for this site. Heh, gonna be an interesting few weeks.
