One Year Old

Gee, didn’t realise that this blog site is already ONE year old.

Just went through my archives and found that the first post was on the 13th of February, 2004. So okay, it’s ONE year and FOUR days old now.

This website started out directionless. It aspired to be a blog, but the author wasn’t sure what he wanted to blog about. Heh, it then started being an assortment for all things. Even it’s sense of identity wasn’t created yet. I slowly narrowed down what I wanted on this site, so I added a photography section, put in the compulsory about page (which until now I still don’t know how to describe myself, nor do I have a nice picture of me, but all that will change in the near future, hopefully) and you sort of have a working website.

Now this site has sort of settled on the red plus girl theme, and I think I’ll try to improve on the directionless rants I’m so prone to making. Trying to incorporate too many thoughts into one blog will make the post seem like a headless chicken running around.

Heh… *sings happy birthday song to LCD screen in front of me* – *makes a wish on behalf of blog* – *blows imaginery candle*. Haha, and life goes on!

Time Travel

I wonder if the twirling red, blue and white stripe thingy of a tube outside barber shops are significant only to Malaysia, or whether it is an international sign stating that there’s a barber’s shop here.

Much has changed in the world around me back home. The school curriculum changes continuously, KL roads are sprouting more and more tolls, which is the root problem of a lot of traffic jams on highways these days, even the mindset of society has changed, with materialism growing and civic mindedness declining.

Heh, the only thing that hasn’t changed much is this barber shop I frequent everytime I come back to KL. I’ve been going to that shop ever since I was a kid in primary school, all the way through to high school. It’s only 5 minutes walk from my place and convenient, considering I never had a car back in those days. Not like I could drive one anyway. I don’t dig designer hair stylists or saloons, maybe because I lack the hair to warrant the need to visit such establishments. Really, what hair do I have left to style anyway? :)

This barber shop is stuck in a time capsule. It is utterly unchanged since I visited it so long ago. The chairs, wall paint, are all the same as they were, preserved in time, it’s like visiting a museum display. The only changes are to the patrons of the place and also the barbers who work there. The Indian uncle who usually cuts my hair has aged. His hair is short and gray instead of the shiny gelled black hair of before. The haircuts are still quick and nicely done, heh, all these years have not waned the skill and experienced gained by the Indian uncle. This place really defies the travel of time, even after so many years, my hair cut was raised from RM8 as a kid to RM9 and has been fixed at RM10 since my highschool days until now, 3 days ago. 15 odd years and inflation has not affected this place.

Heh, that day I gave the fee with two hands and a ‘Terima kasih’, something I hardly do anymore. I really felt appreciative of the Indian uncle’s services.

Growing up with Cartoons

Heh, I recall growing up with cartoons. Coming home from kindergarten, my mom or aunt would sit me in front of the TV and feed me lunch while I glued my eyes to the television set. A half hour of cartoon action was an eternity in a kid’s lifetime. Back then there were cartoons such as Transformers, He Man, Thundercats, Tom & Jerry, Ducktales and what not. Heh, heck, I even remember the even kiddier cartoons like Care Bears, My Little Pony etc.

It’s amazing how each episode is etched into your memory. These days, everything you watch is just a passing moment in your busy life and schedule, somehow all the special effects in movies don’t seem to captivate your attention as much anymore. I guess a poor storyline contributes to the lack of credibility of a movie. Which is the thing with cartoons, no matter how far fetched or silly it gets, I still willingly watch and want to find out the ending.

These days, other than anime, the other things that tickle my fancy include cartoons I used to watch on Cartoon Network (back when Astro included it in a regular package). Heh… you wouldn’t believe it, but I actually enjoy watching the Powerpuff Girls in action. I remember Blossom, Buttercup and Bubbles, but fail to assign a specific face to each of these names. I do remember the monkey villain, Mojo Jo jo was it? Quite cute actually. I think he’s just a poor, misunderstood personality who is bent on taking over the world.

Recently discovered the exploits of Kim Possible. Heh, heard of her before but never caught her on the television screen before until a cousin plunked his DVD into the player. It’s amazing, but I’m actually fascinated and attracted to this kind of heroine persona. Haha, let’s just say the people at Disney did their homework right and created a character that appeals to the teenage male market, if that was the intended market anyway. :P

Heh, the only other cartoons of note I’ve watched are the animated X-Men and Batman series of the early to mid 90s and the new Justice League series. Note that I’m a sucker for comic book characters.

Hmmm… there are probably other things I’ve watched over the years, but can’t really recall at the moment. Hope to watch very many more of them in the future.
