Nostalgia

Just took a walk around the block at Melbourne Uni. Had some admin stuff to do with the bank and felt a little nostalgic after that.

During my year at Trinity College, there was this milk bar along Royal Parade that served some fantastic burgers. It was pretty cheap back then, I recall you could get a burger for like only $3.70. The price inflated quite a bit over the next two years (heh, if you could consider $4.70 expensive) and since it was quite out of the way, I haven’t been there since.

So today I had a craving for the burger and decided to take a nice walk. Heh, been in Melbourne for so many years now, and I keep reminding myself what a beautiful place this can be. I’m only familiar with Melbourne City itself, and the pace and number of people about on the street is just nice. Not too crowded and even while rushing, people can still look relaxed. Melbourne has its cranky days with erratic weather, hail stones and rain storms, but when the sun comes out on a bright, blue skied day, it feels pretty nice.

Anyway, got to my burger, and it was only $5.oo. Heh, somethings you can only inflate so much, and I blame prior inflations to the GST (Goods and Services Tax) that was implemented in the year 2000. My memories of the place are similar to how it still is. The lady owner is still there preparing sandwiches for lunch hour and you can smell the aroma of freshly brewed coffee permeating through the air. The burger is still the same in its colossal size and taste, but I guess my tongue has experienced more exotic foods over the past 5 years and it still tasted good, but not as fantastic as when I first had it.

Heh, Melbourne is a nice place to be in, although it’s not for everyone. Most people will lament at the lack of a nightlife here in Melbourne. Most shops close by 5 or 6pm, so other than food, you’re out of luck. Not that it affects me much, have plenty to do as it already is.

Which reminds me, need to get back to cleaning out some stuff.
