The Daily Routine

Tap tap tap…

It’s a daily routine, sitting in front of the computer with a very crumpled piece of a cover letter. It’s a template , with sections that need changing highlighted so that I can make the appropriate changes before I submit an application. Heh, there’s been one or two applications I’ve mucked up so far. They were for accounting jobs and I said I looked forward to a career in finance. Oops! Slightly off tangent, and I just hope that the HR person on the other side is half asleep when they read my application.

It’s hard to stay mad or bitter at anything. Nothing constructive comes out of it. Had a bit of a life altering process on me lately. Seem to have sobered up to life a bit, and maybe expecting a little less out of everything in general, but still having expectations and hope to keep me motivated. Friends and family have been encouraging, but I think I’ve heard too much of ‘you’ll get a job soon, don’t worry.’ Heh, if I didn’t worry, I wouldn’t be putting in the effort to get a job, and it’s not an inherent right that someone has to offer you a job. I know it’s supposed to be encouraging, and I do appreciate it very much, but sometimes words don’t offer me comfort but have the very opposite effect. It reminds me that I’m still unemployed but at least I’m positive about it and doing something about it.

There’s the ‘Great Sale – I need to go jostle with people and pick up a bargain‘ mania going on in Melbourne now. Heh, was never one for buying stuff unless I needed it (unless of course, if it’s a gadget and the wow factor alone is enough for me to want it). People like to spend money, which is good, for spurring the economy with domestic spending, but overall bad for everything else as you buy goods that most people never use anyway to clog up their households with unnecessary junk. It’s a good time to pick up clothes that are going at 50% off regular retail prices. This makes me wonder at times, how much markup goes into these products and how we are suckered into buying them.

With a sale, stores decide they want to open longer to cater for the mass crowds that would appear after work. Last week, stores would open until 10pm, heh, and unless you were selling something that had more demand, you’d be a very lonely person at the cash register. Since no one wants to be left out, many stores that can appoint the staff will jump into the bandwagon and offer late night shopping. Consumers rejoice! Employees grumble! Heh, I’m fortunate I sell fish and nobody would buy that at 10pm, so my section gets to leave early, but poor souls of other departments who have to work longer shifts just to cater for one or two stray customers that might purchase their goods so late at night. Furthermore, the poor employees don’t get a chance to participate in sale mania and miss out on all the good deals. Life is so not fair at times.
