Moving up a Notch

Heh, downloaded a copy of Sun Tzu’s Art of War into my phone. Been taking a sneak peek at it on and off while at work these days. Some of the concepts are fairly familiar, especially when it comes to gaming, as the rules seem to work well and you have a higher probability of winning (another entry altogether, discussing strategy playing PvP in Guild Wars). :P

On a more serious note, I’ve been trying to apply these ideas to job seeking at the moment. My notion on it keeps evolving and now more than ever, I’m quite determined to find a job before the end of the year. Life has always been about making active choices in doing things, if you want to get anything done that is. Taking success stories as an example, people who get what they want (or end up in something they feel appropriate with) are the ones who make a stand and take the initiative. For too long I’ve been on the passive end of things, waiting for things to happen to me, and nothing seemed important enough for me to give my all (other than studying, but then again, now I’m not exactly sure I did my very best back then).

Just started watching the Fourth Stage of Initial D. Heh, Takumi Fujiwara, the main star, was a person who loathed to drive when the show started. Now he’s trying to find every means necessary to improve himself as a better driver. He’s a natural driver, so even if he’s out of his comfort zone of driving on his home turf, he still relishes the challenge of finding better opponents just to improve him own skills. For every mountain you scale, there’s always another higher, more difficult mountain for you to climb. At the moment, I’m not happy with just staying at base camp, and if it means putting on oxygen masks and working out to build up endurance just to climb it, so be it. I’m not a natural when it comes to understanding things, in fact, I admit I’m quite duh at times, and slow to pick up trends. However, I do notice that if I put the effort, concentration and the right mind set to it, I can usually overcome many things. These things are with stuff I’m familiar with. Now it’s time to tackle the stuff I am unfamiliar with and get things moving.

I’m learning to pick up the phone more these days. Opening my mouth isn’t as efficient as typing letters into a browser to dig out information. However, at least you get the specific information that you want. First there are the busy dial tones and most usually, the person you want to talk to is never around. Heh, making a phone call is easy enough, although I think I get discouraged too easily at times.

It is a proven fact. If you want something, you really have to go all out to get it, especially if that something is coveted by all. I’ve never really wanted anything too badly, and things I want don’t exactly fall on my lap, but they didn’t require that much effort as well. Time to change things.

Time waits for no man. At least in consolation, if you fail today, there is always tomorrow. Heh, just don’t be bull headed and keep banging on the door. If you can’t open it, go around it, somehow.
