I must admit, I was never much of a sports fan.
As a kid in primary school, I think I was the dorky kind. My friends would go play ‘Police and robbers’ during recess. I’d go eat my meal at the canteen and rush back to pick up a library book to read. Even if it was a 30 min recess, I’d chomp down my food in 5 and still have at least 20 or so minutes to read. Kiddie books are easy page turners, and you’d still feel an achievement, even if the book was only 96 pages long. Heh.
Yes, P.E. classes I was dexderity deficient. I was a lanky kid who couldn’t run fast nor could I catch anything thrown at me without fumbling it. I guess I was just never good at sports.
I only recall vaguely having an interest in badminton while I was a kid. They were playing the Thomas Cup in KL and everyone was talking about it. You figure out the rules and soon it gets exciting. Heh, also recalled vaguely in one of them badminton matches (I’ll not name which country), out of sheer reflex, the badminton player used his other arm (not the one wielding the racquet) to return the ball. It was a double’s team, and you can guess they never got far.
I think I also watched basketball then (it was either then or highschool). It was because of NBA in the US. There was the indomitable Michael Jordan for the Chicago Bulls. I recall some other names and watched basketball on a weekly basis since they showed the game at night. Heh, never really supported a team nor did I know many of the players. Friends at school spoke Greek whenever they talked basketball. It’s amazing how they can give you stats of what players performed during a season (there was also the rage of collecting cards with player stats, which can take up another post of hobbies while I grew up). Again you figure out the rules and soon it gets exciting.
I think I joined the ping pong club while I was still in primary school. Heh, I think that was the only game I could play decently. Well, as good as I am with the game, I still think I’m pretty sucky at it. I can remember hitting balls into Sungai Gombak because the ping pong tables were at an open roof. One flick of the wrist and bye bye ping pong ball.

Cutting a long and boring post short (I still have my high school years worth of sports tales to tell), the reason for the sports talk was because of some interesting sporting events during the past few days. England won the Ashes test for cricket. Their first trophy in 18 years, after continuously losing it to Australia. Then there’s the US open for tennis, in which Federer stylishly took out Agassi, who is a legend on his own, as he can still contest these major tournaments at the age of 35. I’ve never understood cricket, until a friend explained the rules. Tennis was also introduced by a friend, and you get to see some really hot chicks in the game.
Heh, for me. Soccer still rules. Ok, end of pointless post about sports.
