All About Sports

I must admit, I was never much of a sports fan.

As a kid in primary school, I think I was the dorky kind. My friends would go play ‘Police and robbers’ during recess. I’d go eat my meal at the canteen and rush back to pick up a library book to read. Even if it was a 30 min recess, I’d chomp down my food in 5 and still have at least 20 or so minutes to read. Kiddie books are easy page turners, and you’d still feel an achievement, even if the book was only 96 pages long. Heh.

Yes, P.E. classes I was dexderity deficient. I was a lanky kid who couldn’t run fast nor could I catch anything thrown at me without fumbling it. I guess I was just never good at sports.

I only recall vaguely having an interest in badminton while I was a kid. They were playing the Thomas Cup in KL and everyone was talking about it. You figure out the rules and soon it gets exciting. Heh, also recalled vaguely in one of them badminton matches (I’ll not name which country), out of sheer reflex, the badminton player used his other arm (not the one wielding the racquet) to return the ball. It was a double’s team, and you can guess they never got far.

I think I also watched basketball then (it was either then or highschool). It was because of NBA in the US. There was the indomitable Michael Jordan for the Chicago Bulls. I recall some other names and watched basketball on a weekly basis since they showed the game at night. Heh, never really supported a team nor did I know many of the players. Friends at school spoke Greek whenever they talked basketball. It’s amazing how they can give you stats of what players performed during a season (there was also the rage of collecting cards with player stats, which can take up another post of hobbies while I grew up). Again you figure out the rules and soon it gets exciting.

I think I joined the ping pong club while I was still in primary school. Heh, I think that was the only game I could play decently. Well, as good as I am with the game, I still think I’m pretty sucky at it. I can remember hitting balls into Sungai Gombak because the ping pong tables were at an open roof. One flick of the wrist and bye bye ping pong ball.

Cutting a long and boring post short (I still have my high school years worth of sports tales to tell), the reason for the sports talk was because of some interesting sporting events during the past few days. England won the Ashes test for cricket. Their first trophy in 18 years, after continuously losing it to Australia. Then there’s the US open for tennis, in which Federer stylishly took out Agassi, who is a legend on his own, as he can still contest these major tournaments at the age of 35. I’ve never understood cricket, until a friend explained the rules. Tennis was also introduced by a friend, and you get to see some really hot chicks in the game.

Heh, for me. Soccer still rules. Ok, end of pointless post about sports.

Something New

Press Ctrl and F5 together to update this page (only if you visit this page often). This is to clear the browser cache to display the new header logo I made. It’s been a while since I’ve done anything other than blog and post photos on this site. This kind of neglect happens, but only when I’m busy with other stuff. Now it’s Chocolate Orange Mint Edition with a slight tint of Cherry. Heh.

It’s now 5 weeks into work. I’m settling quite well into it, picking up new responsibilities daily. Well, I’m more interested in the weekends, and at the very least, Mondays start and end quickly. Before you know it, Wednesday is here. Friday’s seem to take forever to end. Heh, although once you get pass that, it’s quite a joy from Friday evenings until Sunday night before I turn in for bed.

Been spending more time on Guild Wars lately. ArenaNet has added a new explorable area called Sorrow’s Furnace and tweaked gameplay a bit. I find it a lot more enjoyable now, and it looks especially stunning on a 24″ Dell LCD (bought myself a present, heh). It is a very beautiful game and some scenes you can just turn off the user interface and stare into the lush scenery. The screenshot here does it little justice, but it was resized from a 1920 x 1200 res screen. Widescreen is so delumptious (Enid Blyton word, I think, delicious and scrumptious all in one).

Outside Sorrow's Furnace

Back to the logo header. Did that cause I didn’t want to compete with my housemates for bandwidth on our ADSL line. Lag and online multiplayer games do not go well together. The description title is due to Melbourne weather really wreaking havoc on what to dig out of your wardrobe. You wake up feeling the stifling heat in your room, head out your apartment and feel a chilly breeze. After a while it rains and damps your spirits as it gets even more cold. Heh, they mean it when they say Melbourne has four seasons in a day.

Heh, slow weekend so far. Enjoying it at least, now I have some time to unwind a bit. Going back to watching Full Metal Alchemist.

Writing Woes

I find that I have no imagination whatsoever when it comes to words.

I’ve been thinking over this for the last couple of months, especially when I look at the titles I put for my pictures in the Photography section. Heh, call it nitpicking, but I’m pretty darn sure I can come up with more exciting and interesting titles.

I guess its a personal characteristic. Too darn honest about reporting the whole truth and being conservative about what I can use. Sometimes I feel I should just throw the book away and make up rules on the spot for whatever I write. Don’t want to end up too mundane.
