Tried my luck today. Walked past JB Hifi to see if Episode III of Star Wars was out on DVD. I’ve previously read news that it was supposed to be out today. Then somewhere along the line it was written it’d be out tomorrow.
I was outside the store and tried getting a peep to see if I could find it on display. I was holding ice creams (hot day!) and was a little hesitant to go in. Then I heard the distinctive sound of light sabres blazing. Heh, then I knew I had to go into the store.
The reason I buy DVDs are for the special discs that come together with the movie. DVD movies used to look pretty darn good on my screen. Until my 24″ came along, and everything started to look a little pixelated. Now the tech companies are pushing HD formats which support resolutions up to 1920 x 1080. Heh, now that would be really great to watch, but you need at least a 3.0GHz Pentium 4 to watch those videos. Talk about high end indeed.
Back to Episode III. I rewatched certain parts of the film and I skipped certain parts that I found a little too gory to my liking. Never imagined I’d say that for a Star Wars film. Relived some of the light sabre moments and they were good. The thing that really caught my attention was one of the documentaries on the special disc. You have to watch it to believe how high the production values for Episode III is. The focus was on the final battle scene and one minute was elaborated upon. The number of people, the logistics, trying to tie everything up together. It’s really massive. They have SO many people working on it I don’t know how they can even manage to coordinate it at all. It’s just awe inspiring watching it again.
Actually if you do sit down to slowly watch through the movie, you’ll notice a lot of intricate details being put into the final cut. Star Wars may not have the best dialogue in the world, but if you watch it as 6 episodes, it does stand out on its own as a grand epic. The design of the universe that spans Star Wars is truly massive and George Lucas really has THE premier movie production team working for him.
Heh, I’m just anticipating the Star Wars series they have planned for the TV. Should be something to look forward to.
