Where the Weekend Went

Was woken up by Ken this morning to go for coffee. At 7.40am. Heh, that’s probably the most effective alarm clock for getting a person out of bed.

The coffee wasn’t fantastic, but the exercise to go to Victoria market (and the yummy Bradwurst hot dog) got my blood circulating so I didn’t have any problems waking up.

Been spending the whole day up until now playing around with my website. I think I enjoy web design quite a bit (and it annoys me at times as well) because it’s a jack of all trades kind of thing. For me, I like to get most of the things done in house, so as much as my skillz allow me to, I’ll figure out a way to customise my site to my own liking. Customise is the word here, as the site depends on programming code written by other people. I’m only good at modifying code to suit my purposes.Heh, you do have to be intuitive on how the code works to be able to modify it though. :P

I haven’t been posting as many photos as I’d like, because the process is usually quite tedious. Work has taught me to find ways to automate stuff and make processes more efficient. That’s because I deal with those issues on a daily basis, hence I need to find ways to improve work flow, else they’d be mundane and bog me down. Posting pictures used to be like that, with finding a picture, resizing it, building the thumbnail, running the ftp client and uploading it, then manually linking the picture before I can finally post it. Since it wasn’t a compulsory activity, I could do with posting only every now and then.

Decided to revisit Flickr, an online image gallery/album of sorts that allows you to post your pictures for free. It’s quite a decent service, since it generates my thumbnails for me, and the free service lets you upload 20MB a month (which is more than I’ll need currently), it works for me. I decided to offload the images from my web server because I have limited space on my account, and somehow I feel that my pictures are more secure (in terms of storage) on Flickr than it is on my webhost! Best of all, no ads! The most recent photo in the Photography section is hosted on Flickr and I hope to migrate my entire online album to it when I have the time to sort these things out.

Right now, I’m trying to make my website more accessible to myself, so I can share more thoughts with a less clumsy interface that is easily updated to future versions of WordPress while retaining a method that makes it simple to archive and retrieve.

Heh, just having fun.
