Should be going to bed soon, but so many goodies announced for next year.
A new Western Digital Raptor (I’m talking about a hard disk, not a dinosaur) to be announced. 150GB capacity, 16MB cache, etc etc. It’s going to be the fastest user drive for a desktop. Looking at previous trends, this is one disk that will probably maintain it’s premium price as I’ve been eyeing the 74GB Raptor for over a year now and the price has not budged one inch. Looking at possible computer upgrades now to see what’s viable for next year.
Then Intel’s pushing forward their dual core desktop processors. If Yonah’s (Intel’s dual core processors for the laptop platform) benchmarks are real, they’d really give AMD a good run for their money. With a heat dissipation of only 65W, these chips would really be good for keeping the heat down, compared with the current Prescott cores (they consume more power than a lightbulb but don’t produce the performance to match it).
Carl Zeiss lens for Nikon’s F mount? Heh, sounds like it. I don’t know very much about Carl Zeiss lenses, other than the fact that they were an advertising point for Sony’s high end DSLR wannabes. That and also watching the photographer guy from Just Shoot Me! rant on about his lenses (didn’t know much about photography back then).
The biggest thing for next year would be the new Apple iBooks. I’m really keen on making a web development box with the new iBooks. Heh, Dell laptops are at bargain prices, but they don’t look all that snazzy. Unfortunately I doubt that I can take advantage of the GST return before going back to KL. iPods can be launched simultaneously in the US and here in Australia, but I’m not sure about the availability of laptops to fill that order. Will see.
Cramming in my last posts for this year.

Are those dual cores hyper threaded? Because if they are … sweeet. I’m not really up to date on these tech stuff.
