Last Ditch Studying

Just poured my plunger coffee into a cup. The wrong cup. One of the many cups sitting on my desk as I have the half wit to do something, satisfy my pleasure (thirst in this instance) and forget about the cleaning up. At least it was an empty cup that only had water prior to this.

Heh, as you can see, I’m quite distracted. There’s the 101 things to do (which you tend to think of) as you put your life on hold to study for an exam. As soon as the exams are over, I’ll just be idling and not doing anything (which is typical).

Taking a break from the library at the moment. Heh, came back for a shower and coffee. The weather is not doing me any favours with its continuously dreary look. I’ve noted over the past few days that the library is the only place where I can place my concentration for more than an hour. Anywhere else it’d be good if I could sit still for 30 minutes and absorb my notes. Without the library, I’d be doomed to not finishing the syllabus covered for these two exams (one of the conveniences of living near Melbourne Uni, heh). I’ve been rotating locations when I’m not at the library, with little success in studying (stuff goes in, but not at the efficiency I hope for).

Getting ready to do some last ditch studying at the library, as it’s only open for another hour and 20 minutes. Heh, should be able to finish tomorrow’s paper by then. Coming back to do some sample questions, a few reviews, yadda yadda.

So looking forward to Manchester United vs Arsenal tonight. Heh.

My Day

I guess there must be something special about turning a quarter of a century old.

Heh, I’ve always been ambiguous about how I’d like to celebrate my birthdays. Sometimes I’d be sociable and want to hold parties and just socialise with people. Other times I’d be just happy to sit down and let the day pass by uneventfully.

My first birthday ever celebrated at a workplace. Brought a nice marbled chocolate cheesecake to work (made by Vyanne, courtesy of her). Had nice wishes and was given two bags full of coffee, as well as a gift voucher for the local camera shop. Heh, I don’t think it’s very hard to find gifts for a guy like me. I keep talking about expensive gadgets that’s way out of most budgets, but I do enjoy the little things in life. I might seem little talkative about what I normally do but my hobbies are stamped all over my forehead. My camera has always been with me, my friends know I drink coffee like water.

Heh, tried to insist on studying tonight but it was such a bad idea that I had to dismiss it immediately. Work mates disapproved of the idea and sort of influenced me out of it. so by the end of the work day, I had decided I’d go out and have a bit of fun.

Not that it was very hard to accomplish. I was getting clear signals and signs that Vyanne was planning a party for me. Heh, will not divulge what clues were given away. I just tried to be cheeky while going to her place saying that it was raining and that I was stuck somewhere along the way. My friends later told me they went out to the balcony and not a single drop of rain was falling. I can imagine the incredulous look on their faces.

Arrived to many friendly faces as well as a feast prepared. Food was Mexican themed and really nice. Got a slab of Little Creatures beer, a soccer ball and a nice cap. Heh, party was a little muted as there weren’t many party animals there. Would imagine getting drunk and messing up someone’s carpet if it were a different crowd. Had some fun and games. Really nice.

Heh, coming back to the beginning of the post, sometimes I just feel undeserving of such attention. It’s your birthday, it’s your day, enjoy it! I’m just thankful and grateful for having wonderful friends and family. Thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you which feels inadequate at times. Thanks.

Obscene Weather

Heh, know I’m gonna be so tired by the end of today.

Body decided to wake me up at 5am this morning, and I didn’t even sleep that early at all last night. I don’t think studying is the reason or cause for getting out of bed so early, but since I’m up, I might as well take advantage of the situation. Heh.

Melbourne weather has gone crazy. Top of 20 degrees celcius on Mar 31. Last night it dropped to a low of 9 degrees. This weather is too unpredictable to plan for. Heh.

On the technological front, Apple has officially supported dual booting Windows on Mac hardware. Now, this is amazing, and I’m sure they want to increase their user base. Just waiting for the new widescreen iBooks (or whatever they will be called upon release) to be announced with 3 or 4 revisions sold out before I might consider one for myself. Heh, been thinking of a lot of tech upgrades, like an external networked storage solution. I was thinking maybe a external HD case with a LAN jack or a Mac Mini gutted and replaced with a 200GB laptop HD. Perpendicular storage techniques have already hit Fujitsu drives (I think that was the manufacturer) so by the end of the year, that is something worthwhile looking into. Heh, I have this fascination with modding things to work to what I need, even if it involves destroying hardware at times (will be much more careful in future endeavours).
