This morning was the last Premiership match for the 2005-06 season. Was discussing online with Jack about watching the final Manchester United match. Heh, it was pass my bedtime if I would have wanted to watch it. Now I regret not having watched it.
The funny thing was there was a nagging feeling inside my mind as I kept dreaming that Manchester United had scored 4-0 against Charlton (there is no basis for these thoughts). Now I have been terribly wrong in my predictions in the past and I even had the scorers in my mind for this game. Two goals from Cristiano Ronaldo and two from Ruud van Nistelrooy. I woke up at 6+am (a rarity these days) and found out that they REALLY did score 4-0. One from Saha, Ronaldo and Richardson each with an own goal from Charlton. Quite the contrary, van Nistelrooy didn’t even make it onto the bench and ‘stormed out’ of Old Trafford. One wonders if this is his last season at Manchester United. Heh, now this is soccer fandom (not quite to the core yet) as terrible as it gets for me at the moment.
Another thing of note was Theirry Henry’s hat trick. Arsenal never ceases to amaze me, coming back in the last game to book the final Champion’s League spot as Tottenham failed to hold on to the spot (due to food poisoning, talk about weird circumstances). It may just be because of Henry, but Arsenal can be dazzling even without him. If they do win the final against Barcelona, they would have earned a new kind of respect from me.
Chelsea seems to have gone out on a whimper having lost their last two games in a row (this is usually unheard of) although they did have two goals disallowed.
This is the end of a season, and I would say it was a good season of soccer with some of the most amazing games on display. Only 6 weeks or less to Germany 2006 World Cup. Will be waiting. Heh.
