The Week Before

Heh, don’t usually post twice in a single day. The soccer post was something out of the blue.

Just a little recap to the start of the month. Winter is semi here now as it has been raining quite heavily (by Melbourne standards anyway) for the past few days. Bananas have rocketed to sky high prices (it’s been going on for a while) since a hurricane hit the northern banana producing regions of Australia. I have enjoyed bananas as low as $0.99 per kg, but they’ve been trading for as high as $9.00 a kg of late.

Been having a little more to do lately. Getting more IT related stuff at work while getting into web design again. Revisiting Textpattern as a Content Management System (CMS) and it has improved a lot since I test runned it two years ago when this blog started. It’s matured quite a bit, and I find it more intuitive than WordPress (once you get pass the really steep learning curve). Also located a cheap web provider and may consider branching out my photoblog to get more public scrutiny and improve my photography.

Been on a cooking spree these four weeks. My last and most ambitious meal to date was an Indian piece. Heh, was a little nervous cooking something up for 10 odd people but I think we managed to pull it off. Here’s a pic of the meal we made.

curry!

Made lamb curry, potatoes, a yoghurt dip, papadams and flavoured rice (to put it simply) with Vyanne cooking up one of those on-the-fly curries of hers (which was very good!). Mine was all from a recipe book as I have no experience with Indian spices. I did notice a subtle difference between the styles. Chinese cooking is fast, and as long as you leave your meat to marinade for 10 minutes, you can usually get the full flavour of it after cooking and they can be served immediately. With Indian curries, there is no marinade for the meat and you have to let the meat stand long enough for the flavours from the curry sauce to infuse into the meat.

Haven’t been to the movies in a while. Missed out on V for Vendetta (will wait for the DVD release) but will definitely go for X Men 3: The Last Stand when it premiers at the end of this month. Haven’t been excited about movies in quite a while and would really like to revisit the bigscreen sometime soon.

On the last random bit of news, the new Macbooks (the ones I’ve been anticipating since January, the iBook replacements) have been slated to be released tomorrow. Wonder how much I’ll drool at them when I see them. Heh.
