Readjusting to life in NYC.
Moved to Jersey City before I left but never actually stayed at the new apartment as it was so much more convenient staying at Times Square. I kind of miss the place now, with the hustle and bustle of vehicles travelling pass the dusty roads in Manhattan. Jersey City is a very different place. It’s more residential, quieter and it’s a place most people would be happy to stay at. Will be taking some photos of the area soon.
My new apartment is not much bigger than the older place I stayed at but it’s fairly comfortable. Not much to complain about other than the travelling costs. Used to be able to survive on one monthly ticket. Now the fare is calculated by trips, so I can’t really hop off one stop, get out of a station, and transfer to another one. It’s only because New Jersey is another state so the ticket that gave me access to Manhattan, Brooklyn, Flushing, the Bronx is no longer something I have. Heh, also due to the longer travel time (15 minutes extra), I have to get out a bit earlier and I can’t really squeeze those extra minutes of sleep. Minor gripes really.
Still learning about NYC, and along with the very latest technology that the USA can offer, it also has some of the mose archaic systems for dealing with things. I found trying to open a bank account here to be quite a hassle. So many checks and things, and they say third time’s a charm, I had to spend nearly over an hour to open an account here. Not to mention the many forms I had to fill in. I recalled it took only 20 minutes while I started out as a student in Melbourne and when I took my cousin to open one, it required less than 10 minutes and you didn’t even need to make a deposit!
Still plenty to discover here. Will make the most of it while I’m in this end of the world.
