Technically still October in the part of the world that I’m at now. Looking back at what I was doing a year ago.
Today was a rather long day and the highlights were probably lunch and dinner. There’s this place nearby that sells woodfire pizzas and the toppings have just the right blend of taste to it with the salty cheese and mildly sweet tomato paste on that crusty dough.
Caught a glimpse of the Halloween Parade on 6th Avenue. Lots of people were dressed up in various costumes, even saw a Jedi with his lightsabre. Heh, there’s an air of exhilaration and fun seeing people dress up and kids going trick or treat. I’ve only ever seen Halloween on tele, this was a whole new experience. It is an expensive experience though, if you go the whole nine yards for a costume, as they can cost north of $100.

I missed out on the colder weather this year, not that I mind that very much, heh. Was absorbing the sunshine while it was freezing in Melbourne. NYC is still relatively warm for this time of the year, according to what my colleagues say anyway. I blame global warming. Daylight savings will kick in soon and I’ll be hours apart from Melbourne. I have never bothered about the time difference before, as I never knew anyone in the US or London. Most of my colleagues were just names on an email until I finally met them this May.

No exams this time round, and I’m glad I don’t have to study. Heh, I have learnt quite a bit during my short 3 weeks doing this photography class I picked up. I am pushing my camera a little harder now, but at least it’s not pushing back as I can get the colours and images I want now without too much post processing. I just needed to know that the camera works on the Zone system for metering and once you figure that out, you can get a very good estimate on what settings will give you what exposures on your digital ‘film’. It also helps to know what to read up, once you know what’s important. The local Barnes and Noble near work has been a good place to just sit down with some coffee and go through the examples.

Heh, will need some uber winter clothing soon, as I have never experienced sub zero temperatures for very long before. My only experience was in China, where it was negative 8 degrees during early January. I remember that it wasn’t fun to stay out in the cold too long. Also looking forward to the release of the new Nikon digital SLRs this month, and a probable Macbook replacement by Apple. Apple’s products are probably the most innovative in the industry and it works so well because of its human touch during use. Heh, tech stuff is something I can focus on and forget about worldly issues at times.
