It snowed on Sunday. I just woke up and looked out the window, and sure enough, you could see a blanket of snow covering the rooftops and the ground.
When I did manage to get out, it was like walking in a giant refrigerator. You could see your breath frost up with every exhale. I saw footprints on the snow covered ground and just marvelled my surroundings. I had never seen snow at sea level before, so this was quite exciting for me.
I barely walked a few minutes, and it started to snow again. I have seen falling snow before, in Tasmania in winter when I was up at Cradle Mountain and it snowed very briefly. Heh, was running around just snapping photos with my camera. It’s like a whole new world, eventhough nothing has changed. Everything just looked different.
This is the playground near where I live. It looks like a winter wonderland.
This is the same park as the playground, and even the pets came out to play. I saw most dogs dressed up to keep them warm. The colours were just amazing, as you still had a tinge of Autumn left in the trees, the reds and the yellows and the greens just standing out in a sea of white.
I have always imagined what a white christmas would be like, having only seen it on television and in movies. It feels surreal, and you can really get into the spirit of things. A few days before, people were starting to put up decorations and you see massive Christmas trees with lights and decorations.
Heh. All the above were taken just outside my area in Jersey City. Everyone is quite efficient here, as when it snows, you just get your shovel ready and dig your driveway/footpath clear. It was the same in NYC when I went into Manhattan.
Here you have Christmas trees on sale and the person’s expression just describes how cold it is.
Only a few days ago I was still content with just a jacket and my usual work clothes. Now I need a beanie, a sweater and a jacket to keep warm. I also use my headphones as pseudo earmuffs to keep my ears warm. It is really, really cold these days even when the temperature is floating just around zero. I don’t really want to go out when it’s averaging -10 C on a normal day.
Just expecting more snow over the rest of the month. Heh, thinking of warm, sunny beaches now.
