Was cranky today due to the weather. The night before I was freezing in my apartment as the wind blew down one of the partitions that separated my apartment from the outside air. So I came home to a frosty apartment and even after showering and cranking up the heater, I was still cold under a few layers of jackets. It was only after I wolfed down 3/4 of my dinner before I started to warm up, but I ate so efficiently, you could hear sounds in my stomach as whole blocks of food made their way through my digestive track.
So I woke up semi frozen this morning, although it was more a mental state than a physical one.
I think part of the crankiness was me thinking about wanting to go take photographs. Here I am sitting at my desk, looking outside and seeing the sky change with the weather. There was a snow flurry this afternoon and all the cars parked outside looked like cakes with frosting. It didn’t last long enough to cover the ground with snow.
On a side note, I have acquired enough cameras and lenses to last me for quite a bit (although that’s relative, heh). Unfortunately, I feel that the camera and lenses are all I have to show. I want to take more photos, try more experiments, expand my view on things and capture the moments.
So after work today, I braved the cold and walked around, looking for things to shoot. I realise that I’m not a night scene person, having always shunned the idea of pushing my D70 to its sensor limits (in low light, images lose detail and colour as the sensor has to work harder to get the light. In hind sight, it’s not so much the technical quality of the photo, but the emotion it evokes in the viewer (I need to constantly remind myself this).
So here are some photos from Union Square, where they are currently having a market fair just prior to Christmas. There were a lot of gorgeous things on display, and you can see many fabrics and decorations.
It is really cold, so everyone is just wrapped to the brim. So many things on sale.
Hats…. and accessories…
..and the overall market scene.
Didn’t stay out too long as my fingers were frozen numb after a while. The D300 is a great camera, but it’s a metal body as opposed to the D70′s plastic, so after a while I couldn’t really feel what I was doing anymore. Heh, just good that I managed to steady myself long enough to take a shot.
