Spring Punch

Flowers and leaves are pretty much in full bloom now. Spring is finally here.

The mornings are still a little chilly. It’s never quite subtle, the weather changes. The sun I’m sure was pretty much out by 6am this morning. I don’t think I’ve noticed it very much before this. My mind’s been working overtime of late. It’s hard to sleep past 6 hours these days. Just a little extra excitement from going home in 2 weeks, and the little things I need to do before I go. I’m never good with having to wait for things to happen, heh, sort of doesn’t go well with planning. Along with the waiting to go back, there is also the anticipation of things to do when I’m back in KL and Melbourne.

In the mean time, still taking every opportunity (when I am out) to take photos of NYC. Heh, at the moment, composition is more important than exposure. I let the camera worry about those things and nothing a little post processing doesn’t fix. Only more mindful of exposure when you are shooting people on backgrounds, and you need to expose them correct against the ambient light.

Another picture for spring. It’s still a little early in the morning and I need to get ready for work.

Starting May

It’s finally May! I am going home soon.

Sort of walking down memory lane. I already have plans with Jack to catch the Champion’s League final on the 22nd of May KL time. Heh, it’s been 9 years since Manchester United were in the final and I recall that early morning where we were at the pub watching them play Bayern Munich at the Nou Camp. I was hardly a soccer fan then, let alone knowing much about Manchester United (other than David Beckham). Heh, how time flies and I have an opportunity of window to watch the final with him. It was only early today that Chelsea beat Liverpool in an exhilarating match, as I was trying to contain myself at work following the scores. The game went into overtime as both teams leveled on aggregate.

So who will win the game? This is Chelsea’s first final. This is also only the third time Manchester United have reached the final, and they won the previous two times they were in it. So who knows? Both teams want the trophy very badly. Heh, I’m just looking to watching this now, quite pumped up for it.

I am now a huge fan of Python as a programming language. Its syntax is easy and documentation is abundant online. The final push came today when I found out that you could use Python to directly access the Windows DLL files for Bloomberg to access data. After searching high and low for such an interface through Java and VBA, I have never come across anything that was free or open sourced. I’m just very impressed with what you can do with it at the moment and am continuing to learn it on a daily basis.

Ever since Vyanne came to NYC, I find myself more open to looking around and observing things. It’s a habit of mine that I like to just go back to comfortable surroundings. She’s always the one who has had the more freewheeling spirit. I’m good at discovery from behind a screen, heh, not out in the open. While she was here, we did manage to explore a little more and I was much more receptive of what was going on around me. Heh, want to be able to push myself forward a little more, to have an open heart in experiencing things.

I want it to be an exciting month, and there will be lots to do before I hop on the plane and say goodbye to NYC. It’s been fun. I’m glad I took the opportunity to come here to experience it.
