Behind Schedule

darling harbour

This is the view of Darling Harbour from the 50th floor of the Meriton Service Apartments where we stayed during our trip to Sydney. It was a pretty spectacular view, although the view to the Sydney Opera House was blocked by other tall buildings in the area.

Overall the trip to Sydney was great, with some warmer weather and a change of environment. Sydney is more touristy, so it gives off a different vibe compared to Melbourne. Sydney just exudes more energy.

Had plenty going on when I came back from Sydney. Went to watch Dralion on Tueday, and it was a pretty good show. You have the circus tents, acrobatics, clowns all brought together in a very stylishly choreographed piece. Some of the performances were mesmerising, with performers jumping of trampolines and walking up and down walls, a juggler who seemed to be able to flip many objects at will between his arms and legs.

Went to see off a friend on Wednesday who was going to Brisbane to study law. A change of scenery for her as well, as she was doing a design course prior to this. I noticed that our lives revolve very much between cooking and going to work, with little pockets of other activities in between.

On Thursday I went to watch Star Trek with one of my primary school friends. Heh, the new Star Trek was a nice reboot to the series and a pretty well done movie. It was fast paced and felt plenty believable, with some really cool action sequences in between. There probably wasn’t as much suspense in it as you never really felt that the main characters were in any peril. There is the cliché that Star Trek uses time travel to change previous events so it could give those well known characters from the 60′s tv series a fresh start. There is also the crazed villain who has lost all he holds dear and decides to punish those who have caused his misery by inflicting the same pain on them. Overall, the movie has been one of the better Trek films I’ve seen to date.

Heh, Friday night I just slept early. Just never felt like I had a break between coming back from Sydney and the weekend arriving. It didn’t help that I woke up early to see Manchester United see off Arsenal to reach the Champion’s League final. Heh, these are interesting times.

Went out to sort out our home loan over the weekend and met up with Vyanne’s friend from Singapore earlier today so it’s been another packed weekend for us.

So now it’s Sunday night and I need to get up for work tomorrow morning again. Haven’t gone through all the pictures I took in Sydney, haven’t had time to look at fixing up my website. Heh, just haven’t had time to do so many other things. One can plan, but things rarely seem to go accordingly.

Starting May

This is a rather delayed post, having only returned from Sydney the night before. It was an interesting experience, will probably write more about it when I start processing the pictures for the trip.

I just got delivery of a book I purchased from the US today. It’s called Fast Track Photographer, and it talks about how to approach wedding photographer with today’s wired world. Have already glanced through the first few chapters, and so far it’s been an interesting read. Found out about the book through Louis Pang’s blog (famous Malaysian wedding photographer) and with his brief recommendation, decided to purchase it straight away.

Heh, got the eBook version of the book with the purchase, and I tried to start reading it a few times on the screen but never got more than a couple of pages. There’s nothing that beats the feel of holding a book in your hands and flipping the pages one by one. It’s just a better experience, wonder what a Kindle is like as an eBook reader.

I have personal hesitations with doing things differently sometimes, being more comfortable with known routines, but you have to question yourself some point in time with regards to whether you can step out of your comfort zone and do something else.

It’s almost a year now since I left NYC permanently. There are few left in my former workplace. Still keep in contact with a few friends in NYC, mainly via Facebook. At least I sort of know what they are up to every now and then.

Plenty of little pieces going on. Watching Dralion tomorrow night at the Docklands (a performance by the Cirque de Soleil). Have Champions League semi final second leg matches this week. The release candidate of Windows 7 is coming out on 5 May, and I haven’t even tried out the beta that I burned to disc a few months ago.

Wonder if I could participate more at work. It’s just like I’m absorbing bits and pieces without really giving much back other than getting the standard stuff done. I’m still learning bits and pieces everyday, but it’s more like filling pieces of the puzzle than learning how to solve the puzzle these days. It’s just the way it is I guess.
