Broken Rhythm

james squire 09 winter limited edition

One of the limited edition beers released by James Squire, this is a winter ale for 09 called Hop Thief. It has a strong aftertaste of hops, which reminds one of the fragrance of lychees. Heh, might grab a few packs to consume when I drop by Dan Murphy’s at the end of the week.

On Monday tried to make a bid for an off the plan townhouse. The bid failed and today I got a call back from the agent that the vendor was releasing the last unit on the same block for sale. I got the plans, and realised that when I went to inspect, I was standing on the wrong unit. There was a 2A, 2B and 2C. It never occurred to me that the units were from right to left instead of the normal direction you read it at. So yea, felt a little silly that I made a bid for the wrong unit but all was good because the offer they accepted was much higher than what I was willing to pay (based on the wrong unit anyway). The strange thing now is that the last unit is about the same size as the other two, but commands an exorbitantly higher price. Have put in a query on why that is, but just keen to know.

The good thing with this exercise was that it pushed me to find out more details about buying a place. Got some contacts for conveyancers, lawyers etc. A little better equipped to deal with buying a piece of property, but still a long way from getting it. Still comes down to how much one is willing to pay and whether they think it’s worth the price paid.

Rhythm a little off from the weird hours I sleep. My body has the preference to sleep before 1am and be up by around 730am. Heh, anything outside that would cause it to feel a little weird. It’s about bed time anyways, so off I go.

Time Flies

flourless chocolate cake

Friend made a chocolate flourless cake, featuring Valrhona chocolate. It’s premium chocolate and at $60 a kg, you probably don’t want to waste it. I brought some back from the US before, and even then I had to ship it from LA to NY.

It’s been a pretty hectic weekend, sleeping at around 4am the last couple of nights. Heh, was at a friend’s place celebrating his birthday and just hanging out until late. Was at the same friend’s place the night after, playing a board game which he got as a birthday present. Turn based games with rolling dice goes back to yesteryear, and is much simpler (but no less fun) than computer games these days with sophisticated graphics but sometimes repetitive gameplay.

It’s a real competitive housing market out there, and everyone’s just rushing in to get a place. Not wanting to miss out, but not wanting to be pushed to paying unreasonable prices (if you could call it that). Got some plans for a new piece of development (the concrete was just only laid), and got the paperwork for it a few days later. Got a call from the real estate agent saying an offer had been made for it and they were just letting interested parties know so they could put in an offer before a deadline of 5pm tomorrow. Went to take a look at the place and it’s really just concrete and a bit of wooden frame in place. Location’s pretty decent but you don’t get as much land. Is it worth it? Hard to quantify, but it’s progress for me and Vyanne.

Not really lack of sleep, but definitely pushing the body and mind to get things done. Really just want to turn in now to get some rest.

Mental Spew

sashimi set

Back to food photos. At least until I get a chance to go take some more photos over the weekend. This picture wasn’t a first choice to be uploaded, but the colours make it appealing. This was a sashimi set from Kenzan at the GPO. Pricey, but really fresh stuff.

Just feeling mentally tired at the moment. Don’t seem to be motivated to do things, and at times, just want to be left alone. I don’t think I’m being true to my character these days. Don’t know how celebrities manage to pack their busy schedules, how do you breathe when you are constantly bombarded by the attention needed?

It’s only a few years back the biggest purchases I needed to worry about was a new camera, or some new computer parts. Heh, I guess rent is a big chunk of change, but you don’t quite feel it as it’s not a permanent fixture in your life. You sign a contract for a year, two years. Seems like a reasonable amount of time you can deal with. These days the thought of a 30 year mortgage seems daunting, with so many things that could go wrong. Heh, sadly I’m a pessimist with certain things in life, while I wave away most other things people worry about. I’m still wary of the unknown, so every little bit extra I pick up about buying a house. I suppose I can live with the idea of owning a place, it’s probably just a distraction from other things on my mind.

Just need to close my eyes and take a deep breath.

Got rid of my mental spew. Time to go and get things done.
