Not Quite Spring Yet

spring is here

It’s not quite spring yet, but the flowers are blooming. Cherry blossoms only blossom for a couple of weeks before wilting off and the leaves start to sprout. I’ve noticed the blossoms a few times, but always forgot to bring my camera to work until today.

Will be having a go at taking photos of my cousin for her wedding photoshoot in a few hours. Heh, I get to tag along while a professional photographer plies his trade. I can take photos, but can’t post them online. It’s fair enough for me, to be able to see how a professional photographer works, and to take photos with full makeup and costume on. I’ll just try my best to capture the moments as best I can. Will have to take a break in between to go look at a house or two. Other than that, it feels like it’s going to be a great weekend.

The Two Hour Makeover

Just one of those things that caught my eye while I was at Mornington. My style’s been taking specific details and discarding the rest. I’d like to be able to take some pictures where the details are sharp and showcase the textures of the objects.

I decided to quickly redo the site. Hit Ctrl + F5 if the site has kept the old design or if it looks strange. The button combo just clears the memory so that everything is downloaded fresh.

Just wanted a change to the static design I’ve made since 2007 while I was away in New York. This is a very simple design, with no navigation bar and I haven’t included back the search or archive menus. Heh, I’ll put those back in due time over the next few months.

I’ve had the idea for a single column design with some footer information for quite some time. I’m just not terribly good at designing stuff these days so I’ve kept it as a simple white template with orange text, just to keep within the theme of having orange in the design.

Sort of knocked off something on my to do list that’s been outstanding for the last year or so. It’s very simple but nobody ever said it had to be complicated. Want to involve myself in other things and this is a good start, getting into the rhythm of doing other activities after work. Feeling more energetic these days, you can feel spring coming.

The Month of Birthdays

happy birthday

Celebrated my housemate’s birthday this evening. Heh, there’s a whole string of friends whose birthday falls in August. Just came back from my weekend trip celebrating another friend’s birthday. Met Vyanne’s friend at Mornington who’s birthday fell on the Sunday. It’s a strange statistic I guess.

Finding myself better at getting the shots I want. It’s sort of like homework, taking pictures and reviewing them on the computer. I know what I’m looking for when I’m trying to find flaws and how to rectify them. With any skillset, the more you practice it, the more proficient you are bound to become.

Had a talk to my boss the other day. Heh, basically about just being an accountant, doing the repetitive journal entries, or using the knowledge to be a proper business analyst, looking through numbers and painting a picture from the data. It’s just like taking pictures, you can’t go contribute an artistic feel to an image without first understanding what makes an exposure, which ultimately determines the kind of picture you get. You have the aperture, shutter and ISO sensitivity to determine if you get a properly exposed image, and then you know the limitations of the dynamic range of the sensor, do you blow out the highlights of the sky to get a properly illuminated face, or do you want to expose for the sky and get a silhouette of your subjects?

I’m vaguely familiar with profit and loss statements, balance sheets and other items I’ve learned over the years at university, but I’m not one to derive knowledge from just theory. I need to find practical applications for the things I learn if not it goes in and comes out almost instantaneously. Heh, and if I find practical use for the things I learn, it always applies itself to something else I’d be learning down the road.

Heh, it’s already mid week as I write this. Plenty of work to keep me occupied these days. It’s either too much or not enough work at times. Life is lumpy.
