Too Caught Up

One of the simpler images I took from my trip to Beechworth. Personally prefer pictures to be vibrant, yet simple with fewer details trying to grab one’s attention.

Feel that my camera only makes a cameo appearance during weekends these days. My attention has been taken away by other things. Work takes up a big chunk of time, but you seem so isolated from the things that are going on around you. Maybe I want more interaction, instead of just trying to coax the computer to produce reports and answers for others. I’m losing my sense of direction again and sometimes it’s only apparent when there’s questions to be answered.

Also fiddling with my coffee machine. It’s like a professional camera, where pressing a button captures you an image, so an outcome is produced. The technical capabilities of the camera will create you a sharp image with proper dynamic range and the like, just as following the steps to dosing enough grind for a coffee will produce you a shot. It comes out decent, but lacks the excitement of something that’s done with a little more thoughtfulness.

Heh, maybe I’m rambling on a bit, but I feel stagnant often. I was browsing images on Flickr of other people, and there’s a wealth of talent out there. Sometimes I wish I could cast my nature aside, so that I can mingle with all these brilliant minds, and absorb a little of their creativity so that I too can produce imagery that I’d be proud of.

Just too caught up in the daily grind. Maybe my mind has a more romanticised notion of what life should be. The weekend beckons. Time to set myself free and explore what’s out there.

Starting November

eurobin falls

Was having a quick getaway holiday over the weekend. Melbourne Cup marks the first public holiday after a long break in between since June/July. After a long hiatus of breaks, the public holidays will start flowing again each month. This is Eurobin Falls, somewhere near Bright on Mount Buffalo, a few hundred kilometres north east of Melbourne.

The picture suffers from diffraction, even if you can’t see it here, as I had to stop down to f/22 (or thereabouts) just to get the slow 1/10s shutter speed on a bright sunny day. Why would I do that? To get the blurred effect of the moving waterfall and ideally you’d like to go even slower but I was too lazy to hike with a tripod and a polarizer (both of which I had chucked in the boot of my car.

A couple of months more before the year ends. It’s quick, how time just flies by.

To summarise what’s been occupying me of late. Got a new game called Torchlight, which is basically a simple, fun version of Diablo (which I was hooked on for plenty of years since its release so long ago). I had to dig out my USB mouse to plug it in, as hyper clicking on a wireless mouse will kill the batteries in no time.

Karmic Koala is also out, and no, it’s not something edible, but just the latest version of Ubuntu (a Linux operating system) and I’ve downloaded the netbook remix to install on my Eee PC. After a few hiccups, I’ve finally got it running on my netbook and performance is greatly improved. I’m still very much a Windows person as I have to refer back to online searches every time I need to do something that I can’t edit through a system app. Not afraid of going through commands through a terminal, but I’m not one for memorising most key commands.

Signed up to use the pool at the local Melbourne City Baths. It’s about $5 per swim session, but it’s a good form of exercise for me and I’m more inclined to swim than go jogging at times.

Need to sign up properly for the CPA program sometime this month. Was supposed to take the exam in October but my application didn’t quite work out. I know the deadline is in January, but if experience is anything to go by, I shouldn’t wait until the last minute to get things done.

Sold off another lens on eBay. Got a decent return on it, and needing to clear a few more items I have. As much as I’d like to collect stuff, there’s no value in it and it just collects dust. Cash has better uses, meaning to buy more stuff to collect dust. Heh.

And work beckons the next morning. Month end reporting is hectic and as exciting as it gets. Heh, contrary to how time seems to have flown by, I feel like I haven’t thought of work in a long, long while.
