Just a fresh perspective from a window overlooking construction outside work. At times I feel that I need to force my creativity with whatever camera I have on hand. Sometimes I also feel that with the equipment I have, I should be able to take better, but I don’t nearly push myself hard enough.

I am reviewing my pictures from the Yunnan trip now and realise I have hit a road block in terms of getting pictures out. I haven’t even gone through half the photos yet (on the side I’m secretly yearning to upgrade my PC with a solid state drive to help performance, but stutter at the idea of reinstalling Windows, as I don’t have time to tweak and fiddle with it at the moment) but feel a sense of lacking in my photos. The shots I’d like to take require a little more human interaction, but due to politeness or shyness, feel I need to speak up to get the shot.
This introspective look at my own photography all started the other day at my friend’s wedding, where I was taking shots but didn’t really push myself to be creative as I had other duties to perform, and mainly because I didn’t want to get in the main photographer’s way. At first I was curious that she didn’t use a flash unit for indoor shots but later that night it hit me that one has to also go with the flow by seeing beyond the obvious, and letting the ambient light of the scene drive your decision making on how to take the picture.
I have also been looking at the images of some of the wedding photographers I have followed throughout the last couple of years and some of them have really improved tremendously. What I like is the emotion conveyed, and the sense of context the image has for the occasion. Of course, what you see is only a selection of some of the best shots but I also feel that since they do this as a day job, you must improve to make it in this business. My images can look pretty half the time, but very seldom does it convey a sense of the event or location at hand.

I need to get unstuck on the way I like my photos to turn out, and that would involve me trying new types of images. I guess having someone else critique my photos would be the way to go as well. Heh, will work something out.
