Alfie having a blast by the beach running with a few other dogs. After having a dig at the GF1 for not performing, I took some time to get to know its limitations again and now I know I can get great images from it if I think through what I’m doing.

Passion. You can’t get away from it. All the things I’m good at doing are due to being passionate about it. Every time a bad result comes out from life or work, it’s due to me being half hearted about doing something.

This self imposed sabbatical is allowing me to think things through a bit more. I am having more time to read through stuff now, and I keep reiterating about the need to start the business planning but a lot of times we are too vague with what we want to do, so now I’m taking the time to actually plan it out.

On a side note, a tap started leaking a few days ago. I took it upon myself to get it fixed. So I did some reading online, found the most common problem and started from there. It took me 3 days to finally figure out the problem, but in the process, I learned about the anatomy of a tap, and the various problems plus tools required to fix it. So I acquired a wrench, washers, o rings, jumper valves etc. The first try I managed to stop the leak but overnight the leak came back. That’s how I went through getting all the spare parts required and as I eliminated all the problem areas, the tap still leaked. As I now do things by process of elimination, I took apart the OTHER tap and sure enough, found a broken jumper valve. Replaced that and at the turn of a tap, no more leaks! I assumed that the hot water tap would have more wear and tear due to heat placing stress on the rubber parts but it was the cold water tap that was faulty.

So in this exercise, I figured out where the water mains was outside the house and I have also added plumbing to the repertoire of skills I now know. I’d be comfortable doing basic plumbing work for people if given the chance in future.

So it’s great having ideas come together and seeing a result. Mom used to say, work hard but also work smart. Every now and then we have to go back to basics and remind ourselves on how we should go about things.
