Contemplative

After 5 months of owning the coffee machine, I’m better at estimating when a shot pours whether it will taste good or not. There’s no scientific experiments, just subjective observations on what would taste better. I can get nice silky milk, but haven’t figured out how to get the really nice rosettas into a cup. [...]

Rain

Was at a friend’s place over the weekend for dinner. Her aunt had made chicken rice for the lot of us and it was really tasty. It’s subtle how the flavours meld together and don’t seem to overwhelm you. I just find that the generation before me seem to make food taste good without over [...]

Starting March

Was at a Pottery Expo in Warrandyte and while Vyanne and her friend looked at pottery pieces I was busy taking photos of the river just next to the expo. I keep my Slik tripod in the car and this is one of the few instances where having a tripod is absolutely necessary. Needed to [...]

Coffee Notes

It will be a long while before I can achieve coffee art this good. It is all to do with texturing the milk to the right consistency. I find that the milk has to be a certain viscosity for you to pour latte art, so like they say, it should probably look like swirling paint.
* [...]

Lethargy

Haven’t been taking any real photos of late. This green tea cheese cake was made by my cousin for her sister’s birthday, who shares the same birthday as my mom. I really should bring along my external flash for all these restaurant shots but while I’d get my ideal lighting solution, it would really destroy [...]

Distractions

Flipped open my notes today to do a little studying and it didn’t really go too well. Getting distracted a little too easily these days. Just need to get the momentum going and I should be fine with studying.

Due to nostalgia, just happy to lie in bed with a book in hand. [...]

The Plan

The lou sang prepared by Jun Kit for the Chinese New Year reunion dinner with my relatives. It was really tasty, and I’m curious how this dish came about and who would have thought that the respective ingredients would go together.

Need to rejig my schedule to fit in more activities. I’m thinking it’s [...]

A Wet Chinese New Year

Carols’ satay and peanut sauce. Quite tasty. The new year is always about eating and catching up with family. Was at friend’s place on Friday night having dinner, with a variety of dishes and even home made lou sang.

The weather’s been pretty wet of late. So much rain that certain parts of [...]

Number Six

I find that my taste profile for beers favour the darker ales, so when I picked up some White Rabbit to try (being a fan of other Little Creatures beers), I found it to be very good (in my opinion) and am currently a fan of it. It’s full of flavour with strong caramel notes [...]

Coffee At Every Corner

Stopped using my knockbox to get rid of coffee pucks due to the warm weather. The coffee pucks (as a very fertile environment) become mouldy pretty quickly, so I resorted to just knocking them out on my tamping mat. I then started stacking them up to make space for more coffee pucks when I made [...]
